Rangers cap off busy stretch with OT win over Chiefs

Boychuk scores winner to end Parkland skid

After completing a disappointing trip north, the Parkland Rangers returned to the friendly confines of the CUP in Dauphin and slipped past the Yellowhead Chiefs 4-3 in overtime. Tayvon Boychuk played the hero for the Rangers when he took a slick pass from Cam Sarna and beat the Chiefs goaltender with a quick shot. Ethan Myhre was excellent in goal for the Rangers with 25 saves as the home squad outshot the Chiefs 37-28. Cash Clarkson, Ethan Carnegie and Hayden Seib also scored for the Rangers who erased a 2-0 deficit in the victory.

The win was a relief for the Rangers who dropped 8-1 and 6-0 decisions in Thompson on the weekend to run their losing streak to four games. Quinten Fisk was the only Ranger to find the back of the North Stars net over the two games. Those losses followed a tough 4-2 defeat to the league leading Brandon Wheat Kings in Dauphin in the middle of the week. Chase Glover stopped 57 shots to give the Rangers a chance while Alex Campbell and Cade Legaarden bulged the twine behind Brandon’s goalie.

Up next for the Rangers is a home set against the Interlake Lightning starting Saturday at 7:30 and continuing on Sunday at 1:30. Saturday’s game will be the Rangers Ukrainian Night celebration. Tickets are available at the CUP starting at 10:00 Saturday morning.
